The race
About the Singapore Marathon
Singapore's marathon, first held in 1982, is the city's national marathon and takes place on the first weekend of December. For 2026 it has a new name, the BYD Singapore International Marathon presented by adidas, a new organiser and a new route, with the marathon on Sunday and the half marathon on Saturday. In 2025 the race weekend drew more than 55,000 runners, about 14,000 of them from abroad.
The 4:30 start keeps much of the race in the cooler, dark hours, yet conditions stay demanding, and most runners treat it as a race to manage rather than a fast one. It suits runners who enjoy night-time city running and anyone looking for a warm-weather goal in the European winter.
Course
The Singapore Marathon course
The 2026 route is a wider loop of the city than recent editions. From the F1 Pit Building by Marina Bay, the course heads west toward Keppel Bay, taking on the West Coast Highway climb at around 8 km; it used to come near 32 km and was moved so it falls in the cooler early hours. Along the way the route passes the old Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, the Singapore Art Museum and Marina Bay.
It then runs east across Marina Barrage to East Coast Park, going out on the cycling path and back on the service road. The final stretch crosses the Benjamin Sheares Bridge and Merdeka Bridge toward Kallang and the finish inside the National Stadium.
Race-day weather
Usually warm and very humid even before dawn, around 24-27°C at the 4:30 start, with showers possible in the December monsoon season.
Train
Training for the Singapore Marathon 2027

For this course
Heat and humidity decide this race. If you train through a European autumn, add heat acclimatisation in the last three weeks: easy runs in extra layers, sauna sessions after training if you tolerate them, and practice drinking more than usual with electrolytes. Rehearse the night-time routine by getting up very early for a few long runs, since you will be awake before 3:00 on race day. Singapore is seven hours ahead of France in December, so arrive at least five days early.

Frequently asked
When is the Singapore Marathon 2026?
The Singapore Marathon 2026 is on Sunday 6 December 2026. The organisers have confirmed the date.
When should I start training for the Singapore Marathon?
Count back from race day: a 16-week plan for the 2027 edition starts on 16 August 2027, a 20-week plan on 19 July 2027. Most runners need 16 to 20 weeks; 12 is the shortest block worth doing.
Why does the Singapore Marathon start so early?
To limit the heat. Starting at 4:30 means much of the race is run before sunrise, and the 2026 route places the main climb at around 8 km for the same reason.
What is the time limit for the Singapore Marathon?
The marathon cut-off is seven hours.
Is the Singapore Marathon hard?
The course is mostly flat, but warm, humid air makes it slower than a cool-weather marathon. Plan a conservative pace and a careful drinking strategy.
