The race

About the Paris Marathon

The Paris Marathon was first run in 1976 and is now one of the largest marathons in the world, with 57,464 finishers in 2026. The 2027 race is the 50th edition and opens a new chapter: a new organiser, a new title partner, ASICS, and a lottery in place of first-come, first-served entry.

Paris is not a World Marathon Major, but its setting is hard to match, with a route that has traditionally run from the Champs-Élysées along the Seine and through the city's two great woods. It suits first-time marathoners, runners from across Europe looking for a spring goal and anyone who likes to see a city while racing.

Course

The Paris Marathon course

Up to 2026, the course started on the Champs-Élysées and headed east past Place Vendôme and Bastille to the Bois de Vincennes, where runners covered a loop of about 10 km. The route then came back along the Seine, through its riverside tunnels and with views of the Eiffel Tower near the Pont de Bir-Hakeim, before a final section of about 9 km in the Bois de Boulogne and the finish on Avenue Foch.

For 2027 the organisers have announced a new route, to be revealed a few weeks before the race; the start stays on the Champs-Élysées. Check the official site before planning your pacing.

Race-day weather

Early-to-mid April mornings in Paris are usually cool, roughly 6–13°C at the start, with a chance of showers; warmer spells do happen.

For this course

Paris is usually in early or mid April, so your build runs from January to March: expect cold, wet long runs and have a sheltered alternative ready. The traditional course has few real hills, but the tunnels along the Seine bring short climbs, and the late stretch in the Bois de Boulogne can feel long, so include some rolling long runs and finish a few of them at marathon pace. As the 2027 route is new, wait for the official profile before fine-tuning your race plan.
