The race

About the Bordeaux Marathon

The Bordeaux Marathon returns on 8 November 2026 after a seven-year break. From 2015 to 2019 Bordeaux hosted a night marathon, the first of its kind in France; the new race is run entirely in daylight, relaunched by the Stade Bordelais athletics club with a 10 km and a half marathon on the same day.

Expect a city-centre race that crosses both banks of the Garonne and passes the UNESCO-listed quays, with room for around 4,000 marathon runners. It suits runners looking for an autumn city marathon on a mostly flat course, and anyone who would like to be part of the first edition of a new chapter.

Course

The Bordeaux Marathon course

The start is in the heart of the city at Place des Quinconces. The organisers describe a route that uses both banks of the river without repeating the same loop, passing the quays, Place de la Bourse, the Grand Théâtre, City Hall and the Cité du Vin, with the Pont Jacques-Chaban-Delmas among the crossings and a large share on the right bank. The finish is back on the left-bank quays near Place de la Bourse. Bordeaux is a flat city: the bridges provide the only real climbs, and what goes up on one side comes down on the other. The detailed route was still being finalised in autumn 2026, so check the official map before race day.

Race-day weather

Early-November mornings in Bordeaux are usually cool, around 6-11°C at the 8:00 start, with a fair chance of rain or Atlantic wind.

For this course

With a November marathon, your long runs fall in September and October, often in comfortable conditions. The course is flat, so race-pace work on the road matters more than hill training, but keep a few short climbs in your week to get used to bridge ramps late in the race. Prepare for a cool, possibly wet 8:00 start: practise warming up in layers and bring a throwaway top. With aid stations about every 5 km, test the gels or food you will carry between them.

See the marathon pace chart or a sample sub-4 plan.

Print a pace band for the Bordeaux Marathon, with the race clock at every kilometre.

Entry

How to get a place

Registration is online, and the marathon is open to runners born in 2007 or earlier. Runners without an FFA licence must upload a valid PPS (Pass Prévention Santé) to their runner account, and licence holders their FFA licence; no bib is issued without it. Bibs are collected in Bordeaux on the two days before the race, not on race morning.
