The race

About the Brussels Marathon

The Brussels Marathon has been run in the Belgian capital since 1984, most recently as the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon, organised by Golazo. The 2025 edition, on 2 November, drew around 20,000 runners across the marathon, half marathon and 7 km, a record for the event.

Its future is uncertain. Right after the 2025 race, the City of Brussels announced that the marathon would no longer pass through its territory from 2026, and no 2026 edition has been announced. Brussels is a hilly city, and the race was valued more for its route through the capital than for fast times.

Course

The Brussels Marathon course

The 2025 course started on Place De Brouckère in the city centre and passed through ten Brussels municipalities. Highlights included the Basilica of Koekelberg, the Castle of Laeken and the Atomium, with a lap of the track inside the King Baudouin Stadium, before the finish on Place des Palais in front of the Royal Palace.

Because the City of Brussels has withdrawn from hosting the race, any future edition would need a new route outside the city's territory. Check the official website for confirmed details before planning a season around this race.

Race-day weather

In early November, Brussels mornings are usually cool, around 5–11°C, often grey and damp.

Training

With no race day there is nothing to count down to yet. Pick another marathon from the calendar and Run 42 builds the plan to it.

For this course

If the race returns in its autumn slot, your build-up would run through late summer and early autumn. Brussels is a hilly city, so include regular hill repeats and long runs on rolling terrain rather than only flat roads, and practise running downhill relaxed as well as climbing. Early-November mornings are often cool and damp, so test your race kit and fuelling in those conditions on your long runs.

See the marathon pace chart or a sample sub-4 plan.
