The race
About the Helsinki Marathon
The Björn Borg Helsinki Marathon is the Finnish capital's late-summer marathon, held on a Saturday in August from Meripuisto, a seaside park in the south of the city. It is a separate race from the Helsinki City Marathon, which has been part of the May Helsinki City Run weekend since 2018, and it keeps a marathon in the city's August calendar.
The event also includes a half marathon, a 10 km and a four-person marathon relay. With pacers from 2:40 to 6:00 in 2026, regular drinks stations and an early start, it is a relaxed, well-organised city race that suits runners looking for an end-of-summer goal.
Course
The Helsinki Marathon course
The marathon is a single loop starting and finishing at Meripuisto on the southern shore. The organisers describe a mix of city streets, scenic waterfronts and fast running lanes in the east and north of the city.
In 2026 the route used the harbour districts around Hernesaari, Jätkäsaari and Katajanokka, ran along the Kaisaniemi shore and reached north to Viikki and Pasila, with a section on the Baana path in Ruoholahti. Waterfront stretches can be breezy, so it pays to run with others there. Drinks stations come roughly every 3 to 4 km. Check the published map before race day, as details can change between editions.
Race-day weather
On a late-August morning in Helsinki it is usually around 13–18 °C, with a sea breeze and a chance of showers.

For this course
Your build-up for Helsinki falls in the Nordic summer, with very long days that make it easy to run early in the morning or late in the evening, when it is cooler. Use the early start as a cue: rehearse breakfast and warm-up for an 08:45 race. The course is a single loop with waterfront sections, so practise holding even effort in a sea breeze, and include some long runs on paths as well as roads.
