The race
About the Luxembourg Marathon
The ING Night Marathon Luxembourg is the country's biggest sporting event and one of the few big marathons that start in the evening. First held in 2006, it now draws around 18,000 runners across all distances, with the marathon, half marathon and team run setting off together at 19:00 from Luxexpo The Box in Kirchberg.
As night falls, the course winds through the capital's districts and old town, with music, lights and lively crowds in the centre. It is not a course for fast times, but it suits runners who want something different: a hilly, atmospheric race that finishes indoors late in the evening.
Course
The Luxembourg Marathon course
The race starts from Luxexpo The Box in Kirchberg and returns there for an indoor finish in the exhibition hall. In between it winds through Limpertsberg, the old town and the valley districts of Grund and Pfaffenthal, as well as Belair, Hollerich and the station area, with many turns and some narrow old-town passages.
The busiest, loudest sections are in the centre during the first half; later the marathon heads into quieter, darker streets and parks. The climbs out of the Alzette valley and back up to the Kirchberg plateau make this a hilly course, so pace by effort rather than by the watch.
Race-day weather
At the 19:00 start in May it is usually mild, around 13–20°C, cooling as night falls; rain is possible, as in 2026.

For this course
Train for the hills: include weekly hill repeats and long runs on rolling routes, and practise running downhill relaxed on the way into the valleys. The 19:00 start changes race day completely, so do a few long runs in the late afternoon or evening, test what you eat at lunch and mid-afternoon, and get used to running in the dark. The build-up runs through late winter and spring, so race night can feel warm compared with your training.
