The race

About the Seville Marathon

The Seville Marathon has built a reputation as one of the fastest marathons in Europe, and the organiser bills its course as the flattest. The men's course record is 2:03:27, and in 2026 Tola Shura Kitata won a photo finish in 2:03:59. Running since 1985, the race has grown quickly: 17,000 runners in 2026 and a sold-out field of 20,000 for 2027.

Its February date makes it one of the first big spring marathons in Europe. Mild weather and a route with almost no climbing attract runners chasing a personal best or a qualifying time, and the atmosphere is relaxed and Andalusian, with the course passing many of the city's monuments.

Course

The Seville Marathon course

Since 2026 the start and finish are separate but close together: you set off on Avenida de María Luisa beside the Casino de la Exposición and finish on Paseo de las Delicias. In between, the route takes in the historic centre: the Torre del Oro and the Maestranza bullring by the river, Triana, the Alameda de Hércules and the old ring road, with the Giralda and Plaza de España among the sights.

The 2026 redesign removed the two passes through the Arjona underpass, which were the only real climbs, so the course is now almost entirely flat. The challenge is mental: hold an even pace and keep something for the last 10 km.

Race-day weather

Mid- to late-February mornings in Seville are usually cool and often dry, around 8–17°C, which suits fast running.

For this course

Seville is a February race, so your whole build falls in December and January: plan around the holidays and short days, and be ready to move key sessions indoors or onto a treadmill if the weather turns. With almost no climbing, the race rewards steady marathon-pace running, so make long runs with extended goal-pace blocks the core of the plan. Practise drinking at pace, and if you live somewhere cold, do a few sessions in layers you can shed, as temperatures can rise during the morning.
