The race
About the Warsaw Marathon
The Warsaw Marathon was first held in 1979 and is now run as the Nationale-Nederlanden Maraton Warszawski. In 2026 it received a World Athletics Elite Label for the first time, around 14,000 runners lined up at the start, and Lili Anna Vindics-Tóth set a women's course record of 2:24:48.
The course starts and finishes by the Palace of Culture and Science and links the Old Town, the Royal Route and both banks of the Vistula. With a late-September date, a mostly flat profile and a growing elite race, it suits runners looking for an early-autumn personal best in a capital that is easy to visit.
Course
The Warsaw Marathon course
The race starts on Świętokrzyska Street by the Palace of Culture and Science and heads to the Old Town and along the Royal Route on Krakowskie Przedmieście, past the Presidential Palace. It crosses the Vistula on the Poniatowski Bridge, passes the PGE Narodowy stadium and Skaryszewski Park, then follows the Praga riverside and the zoo before recrossing on the Gdańsk Bridge.
The second half heads north through Żoliborz and Bielany via Plac Wilsona, then returns past the Supreme Court and the University of Warsaw and along Nowy Świat. Total climbing is about 84 m; the hardest bit is a short 500 m rise around 16 km, with gentle inclines again between 38 and 41 km.
Race-day weather
Late-September mornings in Warsaw are usually cool and fresh, around 8–15°C, often good conditions for a marathon.

For this course
Warsaw's build-up falls in July and August, so much of your training will be in summer heat: run early, drink well and don't chase paces on hot days. The course is mostly flat but has a short climb near 16 km and gentle rises in the last few kilometres, so finish some long runs with a few kilometres at marathon pace on a slight incline. The Vistula bridges can be breezy, so practise running with others.
