The race

About the Marseille Marathon

Marseille has a long marathon history: the first race was held in 1984, and from 2014 the event was run as Run In Marseille, with a half marathon and a 10 km alongside the marathon. The last edition took place on 24 March 2019. The 2020 race was cancelled because of the pandemic, and no marathon has been held in the city since.

As of October 2026 there is no announced date for a return, and the former race website no longer works. Marseille's best-known road race today is the Marseille-Cassis 20 km in late October. If you are looking for a coastal marathon in the south of France, the Nice–Cannes Marathon in November is the closest alternative.

Course

The Marseille Marathon course

The last course, used in 2019, started at the foot of the MuCEM by the entrance to the old harbour and finished at the Vieux-Port, in front of the Hôtel de Ville. Between the two it passed the Orange Vélodrome stadium, Parc Borély, Place Castellane and the Corniche along the sea. No elevation figure is available for that course, and any future edition could use a different route.

Race-day weather

Late-March mornings in Marseille are usually around 8-13°C, often bright, with a risk of strong mistral wind.

Training

With no race day there is nothing to count down to yet. Pick another marathon from the calendar and Run 42 builds the plan to it.

For this course

Without a current race date, there is no Marseille-specific plan to build. If the marathon returns on a similar spring date, two things would matter most: the mistral, which can blow hard along the Corniche, and a hilly city where flat routes are not always easy to find. In the meantime, Marseille-Cassis in late October, with its long climb over the Col de la Gineste, makes a good strength-building goal for local runners.

Entry

How to get a place

There is currently no edition open for entry: the Marseille Marathon has not been held since 2019 and no return has been announced. If it comes back under FFA rules, runners without an FFA licence will need a PPS (Pass Prévention Santé).
